Centre Point Project

140531CentrePit-TE0002      In downtown Lexington, adjacent from the Fayette County Attorney's office, if should see a huge construction zone. This is what is being called the Centre Point Project. Centre Point construction began just recently in December of 2013. Before construction began, Centre Point was just a field of grass where people could hangout and enjoy some of the special events held there. When digging began for the Centre Point Project, only about 10 feet into digging the workers found solid rock. Frank Ettenssohn a geologist professor studied these rocks, and found out they dated back too the Ordovician period, and formed about 450 million years ago. What Ettenssohn concluded was that this area in Lexington was once a shallow under water, sea, and also fossils of sea creatures were found within the rocks. If you want to read more about the history found at Centre Point, go to http://tomeblen.bloginky.com/category/centrepointe/ this is where I found my information about the rocks found at Centre Point.

The proposal for the Centre Point Project was in 2008, but with some controversy, construction was postponed until 2013. What the finished product of the Centre Point Project is going to be is, an apartment complex, an office building, and a 18 story hotel. The estimated time for the Centre Point Project to be finished is unclear as of now, but from some research I can predict the Centre Point Project should be finished in 2016. Originally the Centre Point Project was projected to be finished in time for the World Equestrian games in 2010, but construction was postponed in 2008, because of land ordeals with the downtown Lexington music hall called The Dame.

  1. Evan, since this post is late I won't count it for last week's blog post. However, I will grade and count it as one of your posts due this Friday (9/26) if you want.
